ZHANG JIAHAO 張家豪
Jhao is currently an MArch II candidate at the Yale School of Architecture, where he is a recipient of the Dean’s Scholarship and the David C. Morton II Scholarship. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design, with a concentration in Nature-Culture-Sustainability Studies. He has worked at Atelier FCJZ and 3six0 Architecture.
His work explores how architecture can grow from what already exists. He creates paintings, models, and sculptures as tools of inquiry, using material operations to advance the immaterial processes of understanding, learning, and development. Through making, he investigates material behavior, tectonic logic, and spatial experience, drawing on site memory and everyday use to form and refine his architectural judgment.
His current research draws on Yin Qi Gu Ran—a Chinese philosophical idea of working with the nature of things. It explores the reasoning and judgment that guide architectural intervention: what should be carried forward, what needs to change, and to what extent, enabling architecture to continuously emerge between existing traces and new forms of use.
